Do you ever look around and wonder why things feel so off? Whether it’s school, family dynamics, or relationships, it’s as though something has shifted and you just can’t put your finger on it.
The truth is, if you're a woman, it could be because you, my friend, are living on a 28-day cycle. Men operate on a 24-hour hormonal cycle, which means they are “pretty much the same” every day because their cycles repeat themselves on a daily basis.
Women, on the other hand, operate on a 28-day cycle, which means that how we feel, our energy, what work we would do best, how we interact with others, and what kind of food and exercise we need actually changes throughout the month. This means that the same thing we need and brought us fulfillment and joy in week one might not serve us in the same way in week four.
And yet, society has created this idea that we should all try to be consistent, have our work schedules following the typical 24-hour cycle, and promote the people who do best in performing the same way every day. It’s easy to add extra pressure on ourselves to always be “showing up” no matter what, and it’s even worse when you think that because one day you just can’t - you're failing or need to be ashamed.
But that's wrong. Our hormones and bodies can be powerful tools, if we're just willing to listen to them and support their needs, and they can allow you to become a powerhouse of a feminine being.
It starts with accepting the fact that each day is unique and layered and you have an opportunity to make the choice on how you want to show up. Maybe today, it's with rest. Tomorrow, with dreaming. Then, showing up with all you've got, before you return to resting again.
The thing is, we all have a chance to lean into who we are and what our bodies and guts are trying to tell us. This also means trusting in our body's abilities and not believing all the misguided ideas surrounding the ever-changing hormones that come with being a woman.
Your hormones can fuel you, drive you, and give you strength to do your best work. You don’t have to simply accept the mood swings, stress, erratic energy, or fatigue.
You can make the decision to tune into the ebb and flow of your cycle and realize that it can bring incredible value into your life.
Your cycle can become a road map, your intuition a compass, and your heart can become a lighthouse, safely guiding you home. So don’t let anyone tell you that it’s not important to pay attention to your body, your intuition, and your cycle.
Because they hold more value and wisdom than you can imagine.
