Throughout my journey I’ve heard a lot of people give countless models and tips to becoming that next level version of you or your truest and highest self. One day I started to think “how can one break this down into what really needs to happen for us to become our highest selves?”
When I really started to contemplate on it, I realized if you really break it down, these three steps are what we need to become our highest selves. Naturally, there's more depth to go into on each level, but sometimes it's nice to keep things simple and just see what's really necessary.
1 - Who do you want to be?
In order to become our highest selves, we need to clarify what that even means to us. We need to know who she is, how she behaves, what actions she takes, how she speaks, how she dresses, what she believes, values, and thinks about. And we need that version of us to truly speak to our potential, not just to what we see possible right now based on who we've been.
2 - In what ways are you already showing up as that version of you?
The truth is, your highest self will be different from my highest self. And it's meant to be that way. You're here to serve a very specific purpose, based on your specific values, personality, and experiences. What you have to offer the world, no one else truly can.
But becoming your highest self doesn't happen overnight or just because you have an idea of who that is. And it's also not about becoming someone completely different from who you are today. Your highest self lives within you and there are ways you're already showing up as her, you're probably just not recognizing that because the ways you're already her "aren't a problem."
So to gradually step into your highest potential, and become more of who you truly are, you need to start recognizing the ways you're already showing up as that version of you. And then expand on that. (Note: This doesn't just include big things, everything and anything counts!).
3 - Invest your time and energy where you feel good about who you are
To become more of who you're truly meant to be, there's a lot of letting go and shedding that needs to happen (speaking from personal experience!). And the bottom line is, being your highest self means feeling good about who you are and how you show up in the world - that's why you want to become her in the first place, right?
Well, once you've uncovered who "she" is and how you're already showing up as her, the final step is continuously and religiously stick to what brings out more of her - e.g. what makes you feel good about who you are. Now be careful, I didn't say "what makes you feel good" because that could get dicey (I mean I feel good when eating lots of Ben & Jerry's but eating that every day wouldn't make me feel good about who I am).
Keep in mind, this includes everything - and I mean everything in your life. What makes you feel good in your friends/relationships, habits, thoughts, mindset, behaviors, values, actions, decisions, self-talk, financial investments, work, commute, home decor, clothing, music, books you read, tv-shows you watch... EVERYTHING.
As I mentioned earlier, there are certainly nuances and side-roads to go down within each of these steps, but when we really break it down, if you uncover your truth to these three steps, you’ve uncovered your highest and truest self. And that's where the real magic happens.
